When parents allow a chronically unemployed, capable of working adult child to live rent free in their home, they are setting themselves up for a disaster down the road. Aging parents are living long enough now to reach the point of needing care and being unable to pay for it. This necessitates selling the family home. If the adult child who doesn’t work refuses to leave to allow the sale, things can get ugly.
